Brendan Young

To raise awareness and support for the practice of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for children to aid in their focus, discipline, awareness, self-control, confidence, and life-skill development.

I've seen it first-hand and often hear back from parents how Jiu-Jitsu has helped their child improve in multiple other areas of their lives.

There are some powerful kinesthetic and neurological developments that take place in our brains when we train martial arts and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu just happens to be one of the most effective, beginner-friendly, and safe choices when assessing where to apply your child's time in learning.

Each quarter we will donate 50% of funds raised to a Western Australian gym to either develop or enhance their BJJ Children's Program and 50% to a parent to support their child's BJJ expenses.

Health Focus

In 2019 I was diagnosed with MS. Luckily these days you can choose how you identify because I chose NOT to identify with MS.

Initially, a large concern for my physical well-being (ability to walk, kick a ball, wrestle with my boys) as I was losing central nerve control down the right-hand side of my body. Wayne was with me through this whole time of discovery. It was he who suggested an MRI.

I went on the recommended pharmaceutical drugs for 6months, (Prescribed for the rest of my life). The drugs are handled with hazmat protocols, and accompanied by 4 other substances to counteract the side-effects of one and other.

I decided this wasn't for me, against the will of my neurologist I decided not to proceed and was deep into research on Wim Hof and other natural healing modalities.

I converted a chest freezer into a cold plunge early 2020, dived deeper into diet, natural supplementation, intermittent and extended fasting, detoxing, and meditation.

Most recent MRI Sept 2022 - the lesions or holes in my Central Nervous System that were causing the loss of sensation/control through my body were closing up, I am HEALING myself.

My neurologist around this time gave up on pushing me back to the meds and said to me "Keep doing what you're doing, next MRI in 2 years".

How does this relate? It was a crazy ride these last 4-5 years, among other "life things" rolling through, the one constant, has been BJJ. It's helped to clear my head, reminded me to keep my chin high and never play victim to life, it's given my boys rewards of effort and development and more.
I thought it would cool to give back to the sport in some way and through Community Quest we have that opportunity.

Thank You

It's honestly a privilege to be offered this opportunity and recognition from Community Quest in support of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and the next generation of BJJ kids.

Thank you to Wayne, the team and every individual supporter who donates toward the BJJ community of Western Australia.
